I was introduced to Clarissa via reddit yesterday. I have never read a comic book in my life before, but I immediately bought all the digital books featuring her. Take Me to Work and Stuffed Friend are my favorite Clarissa stories thus far.
“I didn’t want to stop for donuts” — “But you ate one! Are you actually going to pretend you didn’t eat one??” is gut-punching.
I don’t know what you meant to insinuate with that dialogue, but I definitely know what I took away from that exchange. She doesn’t want what’s happening to her, but human bodies respond to contact anyway, and it seems like she’s being accused of liking the abuse.
Please make more Clarissa stories. You capture her experience in a way I’ve never seen before. I know people want closure, but I wouldn’t want to rush past the pain and skip to the healing, because then we don’t get to hear her voice as she’s living through the trauma in real time. We’re getting insights into wins and losses in how she survives the day-to-day with various coping mechanisms.

There’s a lot going on here and I love it all.
JY: Thanks Oreo! More is coming, I assure you.
