Wow, no love for Dennis. I think it’s because the one panel format is just inherently weaker; you don’t really get to set up the joke, it just has to be right there. Dennis was probably the best of the regularly single panel comics that had a recurring cast and wasn’t absurdist (Bizarro, The Far Side). It was certainly miles above the likes of Heathcliff, Marmaduke, and Family Circus.
Having seen Dennis, though, we just might get Margaret, who in All Growed Up form would be a hot, sassy redhead. Go back and look at some of those old DtM panels, and TELL me that look Mags often sports when she’s walking away from Dennis (usually patting her hair and looking back out of the corner of her eye) isn’t just SCREAMING “Oh yeah, you KNOW you want this.”
Dennis got pwned? Good – always got annoyed when I heard he was called \Dennis The Menace\ in the US, because the UK also has a Dennis The Menace… who I think is a much better character, mostly because he never made me want to bash him upside the head – unlike US Dennis, whose cartoon I loathed even as a child 😛
Well, maybe not right now, but pretty soon I am sure! I expect quick cut back to BC, small conversation btw anne, Chuck and the crew, then something appears on the scanners…..cut back to Snopp getting fixed up then big anticipation comes to a head when C&H appear on the horizon…..Of course JY will drag all this out through the next two months, mind you, but Earth wasn’t made in a week, y’know? LOL

But seriously, folks, I love the tone this strip is taking as well as the cast of characters, and I eagerly await the coming Comicgeddon. Prince Valiant decapitating Mary Worth, Fritzi Ritz and Olive Oyl in a hair-pulling catfight, freaks from out of the gene pool going up against Little Nemo and his friends… and, of course, the coming of Calv1n.
By the way, when will Dilbert appear, and will he go up against Horns?

I just now realized that Horns is the only Dilbert character we’ve seen so far. Thanks for that, S_W. I really like how the characters take different form in Weapon Brown, yet somehow they seem appropriate. You could almost think that Hagar “The Horrible” and Dennis “The Menace” are their wrestler names, almost in a WWE sort of vein, and that the suffixes served as JY’s inspiration.
Also, quick shout out @ Bob: Nice catch on the shadow wordplay in the past comic! Bob pointed out that the shadows possibly spell the word “Hope” when you include the “E” of the stairwell, which I think can be further supported, given that the spook is what threw the shadows in the first place. Almost as if it seems so eager to tell the message that it can’t help but scream it out any way it can already. That said, I don’t think it debunks the “Horns looks like the Devil, the King has a Coffin, the Wizard has… erm.. a pointy erection?” theory.
Am I the only one who thought of Rene Belloq from Raiders of the Lost Ark saying “Ah Mr Jones, once again we see there is nothing you possess that I cannot take away” when looking at that last panel?
Now son, I don’t know about you all , but seeing a mans head ripped off would make me stand up as well … the spooks in the mouth and all the Gibberish talking well lets just say Good Ol’ Weapon Brown is about to have a bad day… Ya’ll stay tuned ya hear…..

The only way that fight and the death of Dennis could have been more gratifying was if it had’ve been some kind of Post Apocalyptic version of Mister Wilson.
I’m gonna pause here to say, -this- is good satire. -This- is the cynical education MAD used to sneak into our brains along with the occasional boobie sketch (which unfortunately tells how old I am).
Which means if Snoop doesn’t make it, it’s for a reason, and not some pointless gratuitous tear-jerk.
