@NaOH the latter. I’m betting we’re going to see CAL get taken apart on the level of his self-worth, confidence, or some other such element. Hey, on a vaguely related tangent, what do you think the odds are that he suffers some sort of self-hate which will become manifested by HOBS attacking him, thus essentially making CAL tear himself apart?
@peepants I don’t know… really, the thing that always left him the most bust up were those wagon rides? Getting Pushed off a cliff in a vehicle of some sort – maybe. Would love to see JY do a full page of CAL waxing philosophical while paying no attention to the forces of gravity plunging to his doom…
Captcha walks into the bar, looking to get black-out drunk He swaggers up to the bartender, looks at him with bloodshot eyes, and orders a “Jager, stalo”
Cal’s weakness is the original Calvin’s weakness – his EMOTIONAL instability. Remember, Lucy got him somehow. There were only three times when Calvin got down in the comics – when Hobbes was threatened or hurt, when they turned on each other, or when Susie outdid him. So it’s got to be one of those things.
I love how Anne is hissing through her teeth in the last panel, being as inconspicuous as possible by forming words with her upper lip, not her lower jaw. (Try it in the mirror — less of your face moves if you use your upper lip.)
Also, the axe blade (tiger’s tail?) in the next-to-last panel makes Cal look like he has a gigantic hard-on. Because he totally would.
I actually find it slightly unexpected that Annie wasn’t promptly torn apart like Honey was, for what else could Honey have done other than merely existed?
Anyway, I’m still betting on Chekov’s Reactor Freak. (Episode 101! I have not forgotten!)
The fact that Anne detected a lie means that CAL has a weakness and knows about it. Whatever it turns out to be — babysitters, piano lessons, breaking a pair of binoculars — I’m eager to see how it will be used against him in the final showdown.
— Captcha is a master of `fernext stances,` but he still can’t dance.
@MediaDuke: Yeah, Anne’s eyes have changed a lot, but it’s been a rough couple of, um, days for her.
I, too, think Anne’s heard Cal’s lie and hopefully she’ll figure out what his weakness is if Chuck can get Cal to keep talking. Because that is one of Cal’s weaknesses: he doesn’t know when to shut the fuck up.
Ah! Weapon Brown! A reason to keep living from Monday to Wednesday to Monday to Wednesday and so on. Or is it Thursday? Oh well, never mind.
@NaOH
Anne made a crack when we first met her about being able to literally smell bullshit, so she’s telling Chuck that Cal is lying about being indestructible.
Captcha relates to what Cal did to Chuck a few panels ago: Costume sabote
I had forgotten about Annie being a bullshit detector.
As for Cal having a vulnerability. I think it probably has something to do with his nanobots.
I’m guessing that making the nanobots go into overdrive will turn Cal into grey goo. (Possibly along with the rest of the planet.)
Cal’s about to learn that old age and treachery beats youth and exuberance every time.
Hobbs is psycho reactive. If you tear apart the man’s psyche, you tear apart Hobbs. Hobbs is the way he is right now because not only is CAL feeling like Billy Badass, he’s also probably got some subliminal or subconscious cues running that keeps him on the edge.
For those of you who are confused: when Anne says “Lie”, she means “Life is a lie, and we are all spiraling into a void of our own delusion, where the fundamental particles are desperation and woe, which travel at the speed of doubt.”
Are we CLEAR??
My new Captcha plasma screen only displays moncyst static.
Looks like its about to become a pissing match.
That twig arm is about to get busted off, I reckon…
Cal’s weakness, it’s gonna be his mom’s cooking, right?
Is Annie telling Chuck to lie, or is she accusing Cal of lying?

Ha, I like Chuck’s speech. Very nice.

They said Honey got ripped up because she made eye contact. Eye contact is the one thing Annie can’t ever do.
Ohh… so does this mean Cal is actually capable of sympathy or is this merely a sign that he still has a weakness?
C’mon, shock everyone and make it at least partially the former.

@Jorpho: Man, that just made me look back. Anne’s eyes have really changed since then.

Thanks for the clarification Don.

I think she’s accusing Chuck of lying that he isn’t afraid.
I don’t want to believe that, but it is a possibility.
Cal also broke down over the dying raccoon. Maybe a sick little animal will prove his undoing?
@ JY: awesome. so badass.
@alexander: He also got really upset with the little bird who didn’t make it
@Ginger: I bet being with Chuck helped to open her eyes just a little more, amiright amiright?

No man is indestructible.
If it bleeds, it dies.
And perfect captcha: ayiete broken.

@JY: Copy that! I’m happy you pulled me away from thinking it was some super-obvious golf/Tiger Woods reference…

JY,crystal. Isnt the speed of doubt measured in salmons?
great reference
I don’t think Chuck’s arm will get ripped off until AFTER Hilda sics Snoop on Cal, any day now!!!
I love how Chuck’s chin changes from a massively butt-chinned square to more pointed from panel to panel…is that one of his powers?
“…withn a bad case of the peter Pans.” Love it!
Ah, there’s no hope so sweet as false hope– or so fleeting.
