I can honestly say that I never heard of ‘Sheldon’ before now–and with good reason–mainly the fact that I do not like Jim Davis’ work, so please JY, have Snoops eat Garfield also, especially that he has a taste for tiger blood
The whole problem with this fight so far is that no one has been able to land a solid blow to CAL– with the distraction of the egg on the face, will Chuck be able to clonk him good with the pipe?
JY…this is arguably the most beautiful image in all of WB:BW. “A thing of beauty is a joy forever.” This page definitely needs to be in an interview article by someone from Fantagraphics 😀 Forming eerlthy? Indeed, Captcha, indeed.
@No Man: makes sense.
@Steve: the TY-Ger blood sounds like it would be good without the sake. Switch out the sake for a raw egg and I guess you’d have a Tanuki shot.
OMG his face, is it melting? and why does jim davis look so damn happy?
captcha says because mbotell but I don’t know what’s the heck is that !! Help !!
JY: I’m pretty sure you had to fram your jim jam, but the results are transmitted by orderly, sanitary electrons that aren’t the slightest bit sticky. So, you know, rock on and stuff.
Beautiful. Even now, JY finds ways to bring in characters and do a new take on them. At this moment, I’m hearing the original theme song from “Garfield and Friends” in my head: “Friends are there to help you get started, to give you a push on your way…” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhLlDyd20nU
@pakopako, damn, I’m slow. I just went back to #58, I never noticed until you mentioned it, hence it’s name. I think I’ll go out and have a few beer and a TY-ger blood to clear my mind.
Geez, why all the vomit? It’s like Cal’s never had balut before. (look it up)
Also, until now I never realized that US Acres was actually a printed strip. Or maybe I willfully forgot about it. It’s too bad a comic about the country can’t survive. As Captcha points out, I guess we all have Township lelyria.
@WALL-R: IIRC, it didn’t have nearly as wide a release. In fact, other than the animated cartoon, I only really recall seeing it in a collected little book once at a used book store.
Hmmm… anyone else a little weirded out by the sudden fourth wall breakage? I know there have been tacit references to Schultz before, but is this the first time JY’s slagged a creator by drawing them into the comic?
@Nostalgia D: I just see it as a sort of ‘Easter egg’ or in-joke, it doesn’t scream ‘OMG Jim Davis!!!’ (although someone might have if another Sheldon had hatched…)
1) Looks like Cal’s got egg on his face for that blunder.
2) Guess the yolk’s on Cal.
3) If Cal’s gets this extreme a reaction to Sheldon, I predict this fight will be over, easy.
At first I thought everyone missed the “rotten egg” reference but then looking closer I realized that pakopako actually did get it, heh. The funny part, though? Using a latin->english translator, “ovum vulgaris” actually translates to “ordinary egg” which is NOT what I was expecting … and translating just “vulgaris” gets you “common”. o.O Are they saying the commoners are vulgar? Or that it stinks to be normal?

Yay! Sheldon! Awesome!
Whose head is Sheldon’s modeled after?
Pretty sure its Jim Davis himself.
Sheldon is Jim Davis’ love-child?
Who-da thunk it?

Or try this the “magic … and poetry at [your] fingertips.”
TY-ger Blood
3 oz. tomato juice
1.5 oz. TY KU Sake
pinch of wasabi
dash of soy sauce
squeeze of lime
Shake ingredients hard over ice. Garnish with celery stalk, and enjoy as you’re recovering from those night when you’re “winning!”
Bet that tasted particularly nasty!
And Cleanliness is next to godliness, that’s why I’m PigPen…
GO CHUCK GO! GO CHUCK GO!
The whole problem with this fight so far is that no one has been able to land a solid blow to CAL– with the distraction of the egg on the face, will Chuck be able to clonk him good with the pipe?
Captcha treasures owthle, whatever that is…
Hahaha what a great noise! HWOOK
Symbolism!

Mensch, I still think Pops’ Berserker 1-panel is the best
Direct exposure to Jim Davis giving Cal the heaves, though? 😀 SUBLIME
I love the “SPLOT” typeface. I want to pet it and wrap it up in a warm blanket and feed it tortilla chips and guacamole. Man, do I love that typeface.
JY: You don’t want to know the ugly things I had to do to come up with that sound effect.
@No Man: makes sense.

(Captcha thinks I have nfstda issues.)

Ha! Let’s see him try to heal through that stank on his clothes.
@Mike T- I think it’s just the egg stuff is incredibly viscuous, revolting, and vomit inducing and not necessarily acidic or face-melty.
@Sherlock- I always did prefer the original theme song to the one they used later on.
egg + face melting = ???
could it be?
acid blood?
all those containers in that room …. a reference to Aliens 3? (I think that’s the right movie?)
@Steve, you missed the Garfield bit as well. (Though I take it Gnorm Gnat is probably below your radar.)
@Menschenjaeger, YES!
Apparently, being the last one to arrive at the lab, Cal got to be the “rotten egg”… all over his face.
peculiar isAUnit

So, is Cal’s face melting in that panel or is it just coated in dripping Sheldon goo?
@steve it looks like it is melting but I bet it’s just dripping with Sheldon goo. HWOOK
Let off some steam, Bennet.
@WALL-R: IIRC, it didn’t have nearly as wide a release. In fact, other than the animated cartoon, I only really recall seeing it in a collected little book once at a used book store.
Awesome. Melty face fucked.
Hmmm… anyone else a little weirded out by the sudden fourth wall breakage? I know there have been tacit references to Schultz before, but is this the first time JY’s slagged a creator by drawing them into the comic?
Sorry… “Schulz.” The extra “t” was for “too lazy to Google the correct spelling.”
@Nostalgia D: I just see it as a sort of ‘Easter egg’ or in-joke, it doesn’t scream ‘OMG Jim Davis!!!’ (although someone might have if another Sheldon had hatched…)
::drums fingers on desktop….checks watch::…..yeah captcha, this is ntaized same.
Oh, the jokes I could make here:
1) Looks like Cal’s got egg on his face for that blunder.
2) Guess the yolk’s on Cal.
3) If Cal’s gets this extreme a reaction to Sheldon, I predict this fight will be over, easy.

Yeah, Cal. Y’see, when Chuck stops mouthing off in a fight, it means he’s about to fuck you up.
I’m missing something here. What is the egg a reference to?
Orson’s Farm, I mean US Acres. It had a chicken who couldn’t be arsed hatchign all the way. It was called Sheldon.
Captcha describes the egg’s fate: Went “emberf”.
Wait, was that Jim Davis’ head inside the egg? Ahahaha
A double gross out, especially if yer eating eggs!
– CAL getting egged (with his mouth open, no doubt) by a putrefied Sheldon,
– proof of Mr. Davis’s dna in Sheldon gives a new meaning to “stuffed chicken”. Ew!
At first I thought everyone missed the “rotten egg” reference but then looking closer I realized that pakopako actually did get it, heh. The funny part, though?
